Another day in the great USA

Well, not much going on today.  I accomplished some preventive maintenance on the RV yesterday.  Today we will buy some vegetables at the farmers market for tomorrow night.  We have invited our next door neighbor over for fried chicken, green beans and potatoes .  He is leaving on Thursday.l  Woody is quite a character.  I will miss visiting with him.  Hope to see him next year about the same time.  We have 9 more days here and then off to Albewuerwue.

Loving this time

Yesterday, Sunday, was a really great day!! Started the day going to church.  Snowy Ridge Church in Fort Collins, Co.  This is Bonnie and Matt's church.  We have visited here every time we come to visit Bonnie and Matt over the past 15 yrs. and know a lot of the members.  They told me Sunday that we attend more regularly than some of their members.  Ha, Ha!!!  It was a great Sunday School lesson from I Kings.  The worship time was great as was their pastors sermon.  Great start to the day.

To Bonnie's for lunch.  We decided to pack up a picnic lunch and head out to a park about 10 miles up the road toward Estess Park.  OH MY!!!! What a beautiful place.  Lots of deep luscious shade, green and cool.  The Thompson River runs right by the park.  We spent the entire afternoon here. We left because it was getting cool.  Sandwiches, chips, potato salad, cokes, pickles and candy bars for dessert.  Then just before we left we had the watermelon that had been on ice all afternoon.  Sweet and delicious and cold!!!Just the way watermelon should be.

Bonnie and the girls spent a lot of time down by the water picking up pretty rocks.  I got some cute pictures of Emma and Molly while we were there.  The trees here were also starting to change color.  We walked the path through part of the park.  Papa spent some time showing the girls how to skip rocks in the water.  I don't think the girls ever got the hang of it, but Papa could make the rocks skip.

Another glorious day spent in the beauty of God's world.  I am so very thankful that God loves us so much that he refreshes us with such beauty.  When was the last time you stopped to enjoy God's beautiful world.  The beauty is there everywhere you look, if you just take the time to see it.

Today Bonnie did not have any Dr appointments.  We have stayed home to take care of some things here.  Lydell had some thinks he needed to do on the motor home.  And I cleaned house.  Did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, living room, bedroom,  and bathroom; vacuumed, mopped and dusted.  Had everything done in 2 hours.  I like this RV living.  Can you clean your entire house and have everything done in 2 hours?  I could not in my 1600 sq ft house.  It usually took 2 days.  Now I have more time to spend on the computer without feeling guilty.

I think we will go in to Wal Mart in a little bit then over to Bonnie's to play with Emma and Molly.

Hope you all have a glorious, blessed day.

Fall Folliage

This morning our granddaughter, Emma, cooked breakfast (with the help of her mom) for us. She made stickey buns.  They were really good.  After breakfast dishes were cleaned up we loaded into Bonnie and Matt's van and headed out to see the fall folliage.  Bonnie had done some research on where we should go.  We headed north then west into the mountains toward Waldon, Co.  Up the Poudre Valley.  A beautiful drive.  We drove for about an hour before we started seeing the change in the colors, but the higher up we went the more color there was.  The Aspens are pure gold.  Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!  We saw lots of people out flyfishing in the river---even saw a guy pulling in what looked like a big one as we drove by. Saw a deer run accross the road and saw a fish jump and lots of birds.  We stopped at a really beautiful rest area with a little shop.  Took lots and lots of pictures.  The colors were glorious!!!!!!  The gold of the Aspen, the green of the pines, and the grandure of the mountains----OH-----God's beautiful world!!!!  The tiny wild flowers, the birds, the tiny ground squirrles, the glorious color of the trees, the beautiful birds singing, the russeling of the trees in the breeze, the humm of insects---all promt my heart and soul to sing---"Oh Lord, my God, when I in awsome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made...."
Now on up to the top--or at least to Waldon where we eat a late lunch or early supper at the Mouse Cafe.  Nice little town.  Now back down to Fort Collins.  The drive back down is beautiful---same road but going down looks different than going up.  The sun is going down and hits the trees makeing them virtuely glimmer in the sunlight.  I was surprised to still see lots of fishermen out.  All this beauty makes my heart and soul cry out Praises to the Creator!  Thank you God for the beauty you have given to us to enjoy!!  What an awsome God!!!!!!!!  By the time we are driving into Bonnie and Matt's the sun is setting behing the mountains and again the colors of the sunset set my heart to singing..."For the beauty of the hills..."  Oh God how I praise you for the wonders and beauty of your creation.  How can anyone think that all this just accidentally happened?  "The wonder of it all, the wonder of it all......"

Now we have two very bored and tired young girls.   I don't think they enjoyed the day as much as I did.
We'll need to do something just for them soon.

May God bless each one of you with the wonder of His beauty as He has blessed me today.

Latest on the Deamon Microwave

Well , today the Demon Microwave did it again.  Billie tried to warm up some breakfast tea and guess what.  The Demon would not work.  After three tries I took over.  Close the door, put the time on the Demon and push start.  Miracle.  It worked. The Demon knows who is boss.    Well.  I guess I have one culinary skill after all.  I will be in demand at meal time from now on.  We are taking Bonnie to the Dr. every day this week.  Tomorrow we have to be in Ft. Collins by 0800 AM.  I think next week will be less busy.  This is hard on old timers like me.   The Rav-4 is running well so far.  Getting a solid 26 MPG in town at Loveland and Ft. Collins.  I can't complain.  We have two more weeks here and then three days in Albuquerque for the balloon festival.  Will be back in Texas after that for a while.  Well will stop for now.  I don't want to bore yall to tears so early in our travels.

Its cold today !!

Well 90 degreese yesterday.  & 70 today.  It is cold  this am.  We have had a gerat time here.  About two more weeks and then we go to Albequerque for  3 days at the baloon festival.  Man!  It is expensive there.  Guess they have to make $ while thay can.   The only bad part is having to go through Denver in all that traffic with Big Bertha.  I guess everything can't be fun.

Home Cooking

Wednesday afternoon we went to an open air Farmers Market.  Got green bean, new potatoes, lettuce, onions, cabbage, peaches, cantalope, and corn on the cob.  I had trouble reminding myself  I could not buy a bunch of this stuff.  No place to store it.  But oh, I wanted to buy and buy.  It all looked so good.

Tonight I cooked a big supper for Lydell and I.  (Should have invited all the neighbors). I snapped a big pan of green beans, (brought back lots of memories of good times as a kid and later ones when my kids hated the chore of snapping beans) put a couple slices of bacon in, washed up the new red potatoes, chopped up some onion and
put in then cooked it until the potatoes were real done. Cooked up a couple ears of corn on the cob, made a salad and grilled a couple of chicken breast on the Forman grill.  Yummmmy!!!!!!  This is the first time I've cooked on the stove in the motor home.  Not too bad.
UCK!!!!!!!then I had to clean up my mess.  Lydell did help----mostly by staying out of the way and carrying out the trash.  The kitchen is not big enough for but one.  Espcially when you are big like the two of us.

We were going to go for a walk, but I was ready to just sit for a while when I finished the dishes.  Besides there is a good football game on.  College game---Cincinnatti At NC State.   Just looked over to say something to Lydell and he is sound asleep.  OK I guess his eyes are just closed.  He made a comment about what one the announcers just said.  OOPS  his head just dropped.

Tomorrow will be laundry day.  We will go in and use Bonnie's machines.

OH---if you read the post Lydell put on earlier about the microwave----this afternoon I put a cup of water in to see if would work  Yep, it worked just fine.  The thing just does not want to do oatmeal.  Weird!!!!

Goodnight everyone!!
God bless and keep you.  III John 2.

Demon Microwave

Billie is trying to make me some oatmeal for breakfast.  this is the second time she has put oatmeal in in it and it refuses to work.I knew oatmeal was bad for you.  Guess I will be happy with cold cereal today.  The  RV spooks strike again. We don't have anything planned for today.  Guess we will just be LAZY  and putter around the RV.  Oh ,the harried life of a retired non-productive member of obamas great society.

Just a funny

Friday when we picked Bertha up  from the maintenance work we thought maybe there should be a way to get back to the camping place without going all the way through Loveland.  We looked at the map---looks like US 60 should come into highway 34 further west.  OK!! we'll try that.   BIG MISTAKE!!!  We took the correct exit (254) just like the map showed.  ( OH, I forgot to say I'm driving the car and Lydell is driving Bertha and we are using walky-talkies to communicate) But where is 60?
Lydell tells me to turn left and go under the interstate---OK  He knows where we're going. Is this 60?  It doesn't appear to be.  Should we turn around?  No,  just going  this should take us where we want to go.  The road narrows, the pavement stops and turns into gravel, big fork in the road (OK now in my mind I'm in the Muppet Movie and I actually see a BIG FORK)  Which way?  Lydell says right.  OK we go right, still gravel road, a few farm houses and barns. ( I just know the people inside those houses must be shaking their heads thinking "another lost tourist" or who  would in their right mind would bring that big motor home down here?) Road turns right no choice here.  Keep going----now it's turned back to being paved---look a town.. YEA!!!!  Alright 287  I know where that goes.  It's 5:30pm on Friday and Oh the traffic is heavy.  UGH!!!  287 takes you right through  Old Town Loveland---stop lights every block, cars parked on the street, and heavy traffic.  Finally 34, left turn here.  Heavier traffic, but at least it is a 4 lane, sometimes 6 lane highway.  In my little Rav 4 this is not bad.  But in Bertha it is really bad.  Just glad I was driving Rav 4 and not Bertha.
I don't think we'll try any more short cuts.

Week one ends

Well we have made it thourgh the first week. Looking forward to next week.

WEEK ONE

We have survived our first week of our Great Adventure.  A few mishaps along the way, but then themishaps are what keep life interesting.

Tuesday, September 7, we are loaded and ready.  After tying up all the loose ends in Dodge City we are finally ready to hit the road.  We get the tow dolly hooked up---in helping Lydell with tow dolly I stepped back wrong and sat down rather abruptly and hard right on my tailbone. I jumped up---well sort of---nothing appears to be hurt but my pride.  You would think to look at me that I have enough padding in this area so that nothing could be hurt.  Well apparently, as I would find out in a couple of hours, the padding is on either side of the tailbone.  We get the dolly hooked up and the new to us '07 Toyota Rav4 (steel blue) loaded on and secured.  At 2pm we pull out of the driveway of 871 East Beeson, Dodge City, KS.  We're on the road and off on our "Great Adventure".  Colorado here we come.

We stop in Scott City to see my sister, Ida, and her husband, Joe, to show off the motor home (Bertha).  Had a great visit then Ida and Joe took us out to supper.  Thanks Ida and Joe!!
Then off for Colorado.  We stopped in Burlington, Co at the Tourist Information and Rest Area for the night.  There were a couple of other RVs and lots of 18 wheelers stopped here for the night.

Up early Wednesday morning, had breakfast then on the road again.  Next stop to feed Bertha in Limon, Co.  Had a phone call from our mechanic in Dodge that had worked on Bertha that a recall on all the Workhorse engines (which is what Bertha is) breaking system.  We should get a letter with more information about it.  While we were at the truck stop another RVer asked Lydell if he had heard about the recall--seems he had already gotten his letter ---doesn't seem to be a big rush on this----replacement parts are not ready yet---kind of just a heads up.  OK so I guess I won't worry about the fact that our brakes might quit working?!  On to Loveland!!!  We stopped at a Camping World just south of Loveland to schedule some maintenance work for Bertha and have them check the refrigerator---it quit cooling when on electric, but cools great when on butane.  The heating element----What? a heating element in a refridg?---is out.  Come back on Friday.  OK.  On to Loveland and Fireside RV Park and Cabins.  We find it without any problem.  Pull in and get all set up  YEA!!!! Home Sweet Home!  It's beautiful here.  Fireside is a small family owned and operated place.  The RV lots are behind the owners home and 5 or 6 cabins so they are back off the road---you wouldn't know they were there except for the sign---and quite.  A really pretty place.  The home and cabins have a German/Austrian look to them.  The wife sounds like she is probably form Germany.  All set up and off to see Bonnie, Matt, Emma and Molly ( our daughter and her family)  Emma and Molly are so excited that we are going to be here for a whole month.  Usually when we come up it's only for a couple of days.  Bonnie fixed supper for us, visited until time for the girls to get off to bed, then home.

Thursday we took Bonnie to a couple of Doctor appointments, did some shopping (mainly looking), had lunch, took Lydell back to Bonnie's so he could pick the girls up from the bus stop and take them for ice cream.  (This is their first time for this treat.---Papa picking them up and going for ice cream--- this is something he sometimes did for our grand kids (Kylee and Tucker) in Dodge.  They were a bit smug about the fact that they got blizzards and we didn't.  It's funny.)  Then Bonnie and I went to another Dr. appointment and did a little more shopping.
Bonnie had not slept the night before and was really wiped out by the Dr appointments and shopping so the girls and I fixed supper.  They thought it was really great to help Granny fix supper.  According to Emma, "This was the best Chicken and Rice EVER!"  Bed time for the girls so we head home to watch some football then off to sleep in our own bed.

Friday we take Bertha back down to Camping World for the maintenance work (change oil & filter on generator---something that needs done every so many hours of running--,check and service the water heater, check the refridg. and repair, check and service the heater)  I followed Lydell down so we could leave her there then come back and get her later.  Over to Bonnie's for a while then back to get Bertha.
Had to order a part for the refridg, did change oil & filter on gen., check and service the water heater, Lydell decided to wait on heater because a gasket set would have to be ordered to do that.  We can take her back home and bring her back when the part comes in for the refridg.  Ok  so back to Fireside and get set up again.

Saturday morning Emma called just as we were getting up to say Bonnie was fixing pancakes and waffles for breakfast, did we want to come for breakfast?  Of course we did!!!  Wow---bacon, waffles, pancakes and maple syrup!!!! YUMMMMMY!!!!!!!!!
Saturday afternoon the girls had swimming lessons.  We went with them to watch.  Next time we will take our suits and swim or just sit in the therapy pool there.  Fort Collins has a great city indoor pool facility.
The girls are both doing pretty good with their lessons.   Then back to the house and Bonnie made homemade pizza.  Delicious!!!!!!!!  Bed time for the girls, so home we go.  Watch a little colleg football and off to bed we go.

Sunday morning---what a beautiful day!!  Off to church we go.  We feel so right at home at Snowy Ridge Church (this is Bonnie and Matt's home church).  We know most of the people there from our visits over the past 15-16 years that Bonnie and Matt have attended here.  The Pastor and Sunday School teacher know us so well, I think they forget we are just visitors.  A Great time of fellowshiping with brothers and sisters in the Lord.
When we get out of church we notice smoke over in the mountains.  Sure hope it's not a forest fire!! But we find out later it is and just 4 miles west of our home.
Bonnie fixed a wonderful lunch---roast pork loin, gravy, rice, green beans, and salad with brownies for dessert.  Then we head home---let them have some family time.  We're going to be here a whole month, don't want to wear out our welcome.
On our way home we notice the smoke is heavier. Oh my.  We can smell the smoke.  Not to worry the fire is moving on west and north.  We don't see any flames just smoke.  We hear on the news that 900 to 1000 acres have burned---3 dozen families evacuated to churches in Loveland and a couple of homes destroyed.  So sad.  In Kansas we have Tornadoes, along the coast they have hurricanes--here it's forest fires.  I guess everywhere has its' disasters.  Even Dallas Cowboys have problems.

Monday September 13, Lydell's 64th birthday! Happy Birthday Lydell!!!
We are back to Bonnie's to take her to another Dr appointment.  Then to Mimi's Cafe for Lydell's birthday lunch.  We had eaten at Mimi's Cafe in Tampa and when Lydell saw one here, he wanted to go there for his birthday.  It is very good. Bonnie needed to go to Jo Ann's Fabric--I could spend all day there.  Then back to Bonnie's.  Bonnie made a German Chocolate cake for her dad and hamburgers and brats on the grill for Lydell's birthday supper.  Then home again to watch Monday night Football.  KC wins-- go Chiefs!!!!!!!!!!!

And oh yes, my tail bone is still very sore.  Sitting hurts.  Lydell puts the tenes (electro
massage) unit on for me and then puts Blue GOO (something like Deep Heat--only not as smelly) on my tail bone.  This seems to help.  It does seem to be getting better.  Just takes time for this to heal.  It's been a very long time since I've had this particular ailment.  Ibuprofen helps too.

Soon I hope to have a picture to put on the sight for you.

Until next time--
God Bless each and every one of you.  III John 2
